2010 Is Convertible Owners Have Any Issues?

Recommended Posts

Wife wants the IS 250 C so looking to get a 2011 when they come out. Any 2010 IS C owners out there have any comments or issues??

Thanks

Bob

The back deck may rattle a bit - the dealer tightened it and it seems fine.

Thanks for the info. How is the wind noise and level with the top down?? Does the car feel solid with the top down?

Thanks

Bob

The '10 is250c is a great car, however, I would recommend seriously checking out the is350c - 250c seems underpowered. We would have bought the 350c if we had a do-over.

Bob,

Having driven Toyota brand cars for 16 years now, I'm quite a bit sad to suggest that maybe you should consider a BMW convertible hardtop. I'm beginning to wish I had.

I was one of the first people to buy an IS 250 C June 1009 and I LOVED the car for 11 months. Then last May an indicator light comes on as I am driving home from work

one evening an indicator light comes on to check the engine. I immediately diverted to Lexus service. Once there, one of the advisors checked out the car with I think was

a portable machine that reads the car's computer diagnostic system. (Sorry, I don't have much tech knowledge here.) After a while, he asks me how the car was driving and

I responded that I hadn't noticed any problems just the indicator light. He told me he was going to turn off the light and to come back if it came on again. About halfway into

my drive home, I started having signs of transmission failure: lurching at times, delay in acceleration, then not getting above 3rd gear (the display has a setting that indicates

what gear the automatic transmission is at.) So, I turned the car around and went back to Lexus. The advisor took the car for a drive and agreed there was a transmission

problem. I got a free loaner for a week and Lexus replaced the transmission under warrantee.

Thing is, today on the way to work the same indicator light came on! After work, I took the car to Lexus. I was told there was "only one advisor for the night shift" so it took

a little bit of time before I was asked what problem I was having. Again I was asked if I had any problems with the car's performance and I responded not at the moment but

last time it happened the transmission died soon after and he responded "Yeah, I remember." (There aren't many ISCs on the road and my car is bright blue so I think my car

is probably fairly memorable.) After about an hour, he came out and said "I'm going to get you a loaner. I'm swamped tonight and I don't want to blow you off and have the

same problem driving home as last time."

So here's the deal, I don't currently know what is wrong with my car if anything; and the people at my local Lexus are TRYING but I'm thinking I'm seeing signs that Toyota

is a sinking ship and I can't really advise anyone to get on it. I joined this forum to find out if anyone else has had problems with the IS C actually. MIne happens to be one

of the oldest ones on the road having bought it the first month is came out so I'm wondering if we're going to start to hear more of this sort of problem soon. The issue

with my car seems like what I've read the ES had. Or maybe it is just MY car and I was just unlucky. My experience tonight felt a bit ominous about things to come. The

people I dealt with were all very nice and tried to be accommodating but I didn't really get my car serviced. I didn't even get a cup of coffee: there were pots but they were

all empty. And no, coffee alone isn't a huge deal but is an indication to me that they have cut staff. Like I stated, they are TRYING but they are obviously understaffed and

not really providing the luxury service Lexus promises when you buy the car.

Ok, update on my car ... such as it is.

I waited until 1:00pm today and no call from Lexus so I called them to find out if there is any news about my car. The receptionist told me my advisor was currently with a customer and he would call me back.

I confirmed she had my correct cell phone number.

Let me explain something before I continue, I live near downtown Miami but I work in Kendall, a sprawling suburban area about a thirty minute drive south of where I live. The Lexus dealership is also in Kendall about 10-15 minutes drive (all this is largely dependent on traffic which can be quite heavy certain times of the day.) I don't normally work on Fridays but I happened to need to be in Kendall anyway this morning. After I finished what I needed to do, I hung around until deciding to call Lexus because I didn't want to drive all the way home only to be called to come pick up my car.

Anyway I waited an hour and upon never receiving a call, I called back. I quickly explained to the receptionist I only wanted to know if my car would be ready for pick up so I wouldn't be driving home and them immediately having to drive back to Kendall. She put me on hold for a bit and then came back and told me my car would not be ready any time today.

So that's the update. I don't know what's up with my car because no one at Lexus had any time all day to even call me on the phone for two minutes. They apparently are understaffed or have too many brand new cars that need repairs or both. Like I wrote in my last post ... feels like a sinking ship!

Update on my car:

I finally got it back today! Apparently the issue was just some glitch with the indicator light this time. They held the car this long to test drive it to make sure there were no other issues.

I must admit I was frustrated when I posted before. I must also admit I'm a shallow, emotional driver and when I saw my car all clean, shiny and beautiful, I kinda fell in love with it again.

(Lexus service does know what it is doing with those free car washes. There is an emotional/psychological factor there!)

Seriously, the esthetics of the Lexus ISC just appeal to me more than the BMW 3 series convertible or the Infiniti hard top convertible which is one of the reasons I chose the car in the

first place. The other main reason is that I genuinely did have a great 15 year history as a Toyota owner. I figure that's still worth a little more patience on my part. I probably would have had

more patience with these issues I've had with the car in the first place if not for all the bad press the company has been getting.

Either way, no issue with the car has actually cost me any additional money so it is a wait and see on how the car performs in the long run.

So why not go out and get her a 2010 ... I just got my IS250C last weekend and I love it ... Traded in a BMW ... would not own one again ... something was always breaking and it cost me $1,000 to $2,000 every time it went in the shop.

Oh by the way, I live in the LA area ... our traffic is so bad that a 350 would be a waste of money ... I barely get a chance to wind out my 250 to it's capability. Bottom line if you have lots of wide open road the 350 may be worth the extra $4,000 and poorer gas mileage but if you drive in heavy traffic, don't waste your cash.

I purchased my IS 250C in May and am very happy with the car. I have no problem with power, speed or anything and am happy I got the 250. I have noticed my XM radio is behaving oddly lately, and its behavior is getting worse weekly.. the Song title/artist doesn't update with each new song. Some days it works as expected, other days it just sticks on the first song since I turned on the car. The only way to get it to update the song/artist is to a] change channel, b] change input, c] turn off radio and turn back on (sometimes), d] leave the "text" screen, click the channel name and go back to "text" screen.

But the XM still works, just song title/artist doesn't update. I sure hope this isn't a sign of the radio/computer freaking out.

I haven't been able to identify any pattern, cause or reason as to why the song titles don't update.

Thanks for the info. How is the wind noise and level with the top down?? Does the car feel solid with the top down?

Thanks

Bob

Just as solid without the top.

There is surprisingly very little wind noise if you have the wind screen up/installed. Without the wind screen, the wind is very noticeable. My guests in the rear seat were really wind blown.

I am a new owner of the IS250c and so far I love it. I have a few questions so please be patient. How do you get the radio to stay on and not change back to map constantly? Also, what would happen if the key would fail? How would one get into the car and would it start if you did get in? I am reading the manual but find that it does not include evrything. Thanks all.

Can't help with the map question (don't have nav), but the question regarding key failure is covered quite well in the owners manual. Enjoy the car.

I'm very happy with our 2010 IS 250 C. It's peppy enough for most passing situations. Over 6,000 miles it's averaging 28.7 miles per U.S. gallon. The ride is solid but comfortable enough for long trips. The brakes are good and the noise level is very low top up.

My 2010 luxes is250C also has the same issue; rattling at the back deck or somewhere there. I took it to the dealer for about 3 times. They tried to fix it and put the new part but for some reason, the rattle noice is still coming back. Any suggestion?
