i have a 2001 IS and was wondering the plastic underneath the car does it really need to be there or can i take it off because it's a hassle to take off and then put back on when workin on the underside

I wondered that myself as my ES is the first car I have owned that had this sort of splash guard. I have been told it is 50% air deflector and 50% splashguard.

I can only say that the engine bay is much cleaner with it in place.

i would also say that it depends on if you live in an area with lots of hills/speed bumps. it would be a shame to trash the underside of your front end because you didn't like the plastic.

also, they sell aluminum plates that will bolt into the factory screws with the drain plug bolt hole already cut out, so you don't have to remove the plate to change your oil.

just a heads up. :D
