If there is a passenger in the seat, it is supposed to light up indicating it is active; but if no passenger, it should not be on (malfunction).. If my 11 year old sits in the front seat, the airbag will indicate that it is off. Not sure what the weight limit is, but my son weighs close to 85 lbs.
