Something in the transmission in my/my dad's 2000 GS 300 broke and busted a seal in the process. The shop it is at now doesn't know what to do, and won't say/doesn't know what broke. I'm wondering if it is best to just take it to a Lexus dealership now. We are currently in the process of debating whether to sell the car or not, and obviously need to fix this before we actually do. I just don't want them to replace the whole transmission when they don't have to. I wish I could offer more info, but I'm away from home in college and can't get the right info myself.

take it to someone else...either a tranny specialist or a dealer or a certified lexus/toyota mechanic. get it away from that shop..

i broke somethin in my diff this weekend too....i think mine is just the carrier bearing though

Thanks, that's what my dad ended up doing. Thankfully they are just going to rebuild the broken part and replace the seal. Way better than the last ditch repair of getting a brand new transmission.

Sorry about the double post but I found out what broke. The shop said the torque converter was literally destroyed and the shop had never seen anything so bad. The transmission is out of the car and has been sent to a specialist because apparently you can't buy a torque converter for this transmission anymore and it has to be rebuilt. This is just my luck I guess.
