Knocking Sounds Like In Exhuast

Hey i just recently purchased a 92' sc400 and i am oh so in love. i have been reading about lot's of mod's that can be done and im excited! but right now when i start my car it sounds like there is a ticking or knocking noise coming from the exhuast. i have no clue what it could be. does anyone have suggestions?

Are you sure its not the valve train tick? I also thought i had a problem when i first bought my car but have laid it to rest as a few of these sc's i've seen have noisy valves. I'm not sure how you could check for an exhaust leak. I guess start the car and stick your head in the engine compartment and rev the dogs**t out of it a couple times. If it gets louder with more throttle its the exhaust, if it gets drowned out by the engine itself its probably the valves. Hope this helps. Dang these forums are dead.

hey ive got the same thing on mine i have had a 98 sc400 and a 93 and they both did it, from what i can tell its the exhaust and it just gets soo hot and the cats are just to hot and the expanding and contracting of heating up and cooling off make that sound, im actually getting the ss headers installed tuesday with straight pipes back to a set of thrush mufflers, il let u no how it goes, but im excited to see that extra 20 hp and tq to the wheels :)
