Navigation Upgrade For 98 Gs300

Recommended Posts

Not sure if you're talking about the factory navigation system, but 1998 GS300 navigation system was hard drive based. To upgrade to newer maps, the hard drive had to be replaced. At this time it may not be worth doing an upgrade since the maps for the hard drives haven't been updated since 2005. The hard drives for that generation were under 2 GB and I think they just ran out of room.

actually the last update was a 2004....and he's right though, all units till 2001 were/are hard drive based nav systems and the last upgrade for them is a 2004 (it will run you about 250, i think i remember) other than that, get a regular climate control assy. and a aftermarket nav (avic-d3 or something like that) and it will work just the same and yes it can be done very easily...simple B)

I just purchased a 1998 GS300. I would like to know if there is any way I could upgrade my navigation system. Thanks.

You have to order it from a dealer and trade in your old disc drive when the update arrives from denso. The last update was 2004 now 4 years old. It costs $300.00 last time I ordered one in 2004. There is a flash drive port in the 98 lexus gps computers so I wonder if someone could load a newer version on a flash card and upgrade that way, I have never done it. I think Acura owners do that with there 98 hard drive computers.
