Hi,

My starter is out and wanted any advise on changing the starter. I tried going from the top but that just sucks. Im gonna try going from the bottom tomorrow and hopefully Ill have better luck. Is there anything I should watch out for? So far I noticed its only 2 screws. By the way its a 96 SC300 with 125K miles.

Thanks.

Well I replaced it. It was a lot of trouble. Took me a good 4-5 hours. I did it 1 click at a time since thats about all the space it allows. Annoying. If anyone is thinking about doing this I can list what i used.

Go ahead. That top bolt sucks don't it? You'll be able to do it in 15 minutes now. Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

Sometimes you have to be creative when working on cars. On some cars it is easier to remove a wheel and get to things that way. Older Pontiacs with A/C were a big pain to change plugs in until someone showed me that trick. Also very long extensions work well. I have a 4 ft Snap-On (expensive but worth it) that has gotten me out of a few jams.

I guess I got a little off topic.

All I know is when I did my clutch, the starter sort of ended up chillin in my hand.

But i'm pretty sure you don't want to take of your tranny to get to the starter.

The right tools are key....I didn't realize this until I did the clutch.
