JMorton Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 While turning the ignition key to start my 2004 RX330, the black plastic handle cracked and broke. How/where can I find a replacement pastic part? Thanks, Jeff
BillyShaft Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 sewell lexus has them...pretty cheap too. Black Plastic Key Shell Good Luck!
Karl K Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I found a key shell cover on eBay for about twenty bucks. On mine only the cover was broken.
JMorton Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks, Billy and Karl, Sewell is a good link. For $57 they'll cut me a new key and let me use my old electronic module in it. It seems a little steep, but it's a whole lot less than a new key to cut AND program a new electronics unit. The ~$20 black plastic shell on eBay (no key blank needs to be cut...you can re-use the old metal key and electronics) would work even cheaper, but I need a way to securly connect (epoxy?) the old metal key into the new shell. I have a vague recollection of seeing a post about a year ago where someone provided info on how to do this. Can any one recall such a post? Thanks once again, Jeff
cduluk Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Watch what shells you get, there are many aftermarket shells that look 'similar' to the stock ones, but are cheap. The blade itself can be cut out of the plastic shell and re glued into a new shell.
