Cel Po401

I went to AutoZone this morning and they read my CEL code. It was PO401 and the definition was too little flow on the EGR system and follows;

1. Blocked passage on EGR system.

2. Failed EGR valve.

3. Failed EGR pressure sensor where applicable.

4. " " position " " " ......

Has anyone run into this problem, ( the car runs great and MPG are great ),and if so , any suggestions ? Has anyone used Seafoam in the intake and would this possibly take care of this problem.

Check your egr vacumm modulator filter. See if that fixes your cel. Here's the HTD:

I had the same problem on my car.

I cleaned the EGR valve itself and changed the EGR temperature sensor. Neither fixed the problem.

Finally when I needed a new head gasket I had the head cleaned and a valve job done.

Once I did this work, no more problem. I assume the passages were partially plugged.

Now you tell us! Why didn't you put that in your original post? You should update your profile info.

Check your EGR valve, by applying vacuum directly to the valve, if the engine doesn't run rough or stall, the passage in your intake is probably restricted.
