kjm Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 I am serioulsy considering buying a 98GS4 and would like to take it somewhere to be looked over. Any reccomendations? The car does have the abs sensor lights on (hoping it's the wiring that I can repair myself) and an exhaust leak up front somewhere. I'm a honda guy that know's nothing about the lexus scene. Thanks in advance.

Take it to mechanic that your friend/family trusts and tell him to check for - leaks - suspension - engine compression - breaks - let him drive the car I might be wrong but that's what i did when i got my 98GS400. I enjoy every second of it but i begin to have suspension problems that even Lexus dealership couldn't identify. Good luck

They're only around $200. $200 wouldn't really make me write off an entire car. And if it is the sensor(s) is there any harm to the car driving it without replacing them right away? I know I wouldn't have abs or tc but i'm fine with that.

I totally agree. The car has lowering springs and I know that the sensor's wires are often damaged during less than careful suspension swaps. Hopefully that's all that has happened.

Besides ball joints, any other glaring gs issues come to mind? ball joints, eventually servo motors (most the time), make sure maintanance has been done and is up 2 date, other than that nothing i can really recall
kjm Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Well I will have the car for a few hours tomorrow to check over and I have borrowed a scan tool to check the abs issue out. Quick question - where is the obdII port on the gs4?
sakataj Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Well I will have the car for a few hours tomorrow to check over and I have borrowed a scan tool to check the abs issue out. Quick question - where is the obdII port on the gs4? if its like my gs430 there are 2....one is under the dash by the steering wheel just further under the dash and the second is under the hood...i think on the right.....ok just went and looked at both of mine.....ok dash one.....look for the foot light that comes on.......drivers side, its RIGHT next to it but its really low so u gonna have to bend down, says ecu on it i think it said, its cold so i didnt stay long! one under the hood.....IF YOUR LOOKING AT THE MOTOR FACING THE CAR....its on drivers side to the left of the fuse box, says diagnostic or diagnosis. i forgot what it said already and its cold, im not going back outside lol

Recommended by the APA. Good luck with the GS.
SKperformance Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I use bullock auto , tell them i sent you . Just mention the Green LS on air suspension. Andy is from Don valley lexus. The prices are good and they inspect for free with other work. Best part is they lay off the BS

The prices are good and they inspect for free with other work. Best part is they lay off the BS Thanks guys. Nice to see some local people. Well the car does need a bit of work. Has a broken front passenger sway bar end link and worn tie-rod end. The seller is going to sort out the abs issue so that's a big help. Also, the front of the car is a bit aprox 3/4 of an inch lower on the drivers side. Would the broken endlink cause this? It's already got blisten shocks and some black springs with no markings that look to be installed properly. Maybe the drivers front is spring is sagging. I may have to find some springs for it. Anyone reccomendations for finding springs in the GTA? Used is fine and preferred. Hoping to find a set in g/c for $200 or so. l-tuned, s-techs, tanabe etc Any canadian based lexus forums?
