Blowing Smoke When Cold

My 93 LS with 180k is puffing out smoke when its cold and idling. there is also a gasous smell coming out of the exhaust. when i rev it a little bit the smoke will stop for about 10 seconds and then return. After driving for a block or two I'm good to go. Is that normal? any ideas? Thx.

I have 255.000 and no smoke at startup. It sounds like the valve seals are going. No big deal as long as the neighbors don't complain.

Just keep an eye on: 1 oil level, or it could be : 2 ACV valve (A.K.A. -- IAC) on PS pump. There is an issue with the acv (IAC) valve leaking PS fluid back into the block, IIRC.

Actually, google is our friend, here ya go:

Does that describe it?

Then go here:

And read the IAC part, and how to plug it.

Could be the coolant temp sender is fouled, if not reading the coolant temp correctly at start up (cold) it will tell ecu to enrich the fuel and you can wind up buring slightly blue smoke at startup and it will adjust itself out as the car warms up, you can also smell the added fuel in the exhaust gases.

It's an easy fix. Justa thought.

Cheers

hi, two questions !! has the car had regular service if not could be leaking oil in to the cylinder buy the rings or from the valve seals when it sits over night if its just a little would not worry but if it gets to smoke a lot would have it checked
