ktmsooner
I was checking today on some new front brakes for my 04 ls 430. I found the pads at the Lexus dealer for 85.00. The kicker is I was told that I needed to replace the bolts that hold the brake calipers on too. These bolts are 8.50 each. I have replaced many front brakes on cars and have never heard that you should replace these bolts. There are 4 of these bolts total, not that much, but is it necessary? Thanks for any input
Step Hen
I've only heard of replacing bolts as one-time use only when it requires a high torque application.
SRK
It is not necessary. Re-use the bolts and ignore advice like that. They are not torque-to-yield bolts. The factory uses a thread locking compound similar to Loctite blue. I don't even do that. However, if you are unfamiliar with tightening bolts by feel, use a torque wrench and install them to the factory specs.
