denbaldwin Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 Recently, I needed to repalce the rear brake lights in my 1996 LS400. Unfortunately, I was unable to get instructions from this forum. I could have saved alot of time had I known what I learned through "discovery" but on the other hand this forum has saved me a bunch of time in the past so I feel I'm "giving back" to this forum by explaining how to replace the Brakelight bulbs loctaed in the trunk lid. Upon opening the trunk you will discover a trap door secured by velcro. Pry open the small door and look for a silver colored phillips head screw in the center of the grey colored light housing. Unscrew the single screw. Upon doing this, the housing unit is freed from the sheet metal and can be maneuvered throught the square hole that is now open. The bulbs are secured by pressure so simply pull the old bulb straight out of the housing then push the new bulb back into it's place. The bulbs are Sylvania 7440 and 7443. That information is written on the grey colored plastic light housing so it's impossible to get confused as to which bulb goes where. Maneuver the housing back into the "hole" replace the single screw and close the door by pushing it against the velcro and you are finished. Hope this helps
99lsguy Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 den, Thanks for the post! I'm copying it to a word file - hopefully to use as part of an 'ONLINE' repair/maintenance thread. All the little things add up :D
