Battery Light On

93 Lexus Mama

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, new to the board here... I'm at a little bit of a loss due to the fact that my battery light in my 93 LS400 came on. I took it in and had the battery and the alternator checked and they are running in tip top shape. I tried resetting battery warning light by unplugging the battery for 10 minutes but its still on so I figure there is still a problem somewhere. This is what happened...

I was driving, doing maybe 45 on a city street, and I suddenly smelt a burnt smell and my battery light came on. I immediately pulled over, checked under the hood (where there was NO smell) and found nothing to be amiss. I started the car, which started fine, and the smell dissipated but the light remains on.

Does anyone have any clue as to what my problem might be? Im afraid to drive it long distances for my safety and the safety of my infant. I also don't want to damage the car due to ignorance! Unfortunately I lost my manual...

Please help!

No use guessing. Since you have a trouble light, chances are, you also have a trouble code stored. Search the term ' engine trouble codes '. Better yet here's the link:

I would also check all fuses. Let me ask you; was the cigarette lighter out of it's socket , and did a penny or gum wrapper happen to fall into the CL socket and short it?

Post back what the code is so we can help.

Should take less than 10 minutes to retrieve it.

Could also be a bad ground somewhere, which leads me to the next semi-obvious issue: search ' trunk wire harness '.

Let us know what the code is.

Thank you for your response, looks like I have a little work ahead of me... Once I do this I will repost here, unfortunately I do not have the tool to complete this (although for my year car it says you don't need a tool but all instructions point towards a tool...) MAJOR DUMMY with cars here until I learn it so I'll have to get back to you.
