AJJ
My 1990 LS400 (many miles) has started having some resistance in the transmission shifter between all the settings (P-R-N-D). It never "catches" and it moves smoothly, but not nearly as easily as before. It's as if it used to move in light-weight oil and now it moves in something much thicker. eatingupblacktop
Try greasing the linkages.
glenmore
There is a rubber bushing in the linkage under the car. Looks like a minature sway bar bushing. I have a 1990 also and after changing them on my 1991 Mercedes I thought to check my Lexus. The Mercedes ones are a hard nylon plastic and disintergrate over time. On my 1991 Mercedes, this led to a loose shifter. On my 2000 C280, this led to a really stiff shifter. The rubber Lexus bushing was still in very good condition. If you find that you need this bushing, I'll sell you my used one for shipping costs. glenmore 1990 LS400 1991 300CE 2000 C280
JeffreyV
Our 1999 LS300 shifter became real stiff. It needed a new cable.
