2001 Gs300 Hesistates While Reversing

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 GS300 with only 50,500 miles on it. I'm noticing that while reversing it hesitates, as well as when driving sometimes its hesitating slightly and not as smooth as it has been. please tell me this is not the transmission going bad already??? any suggestions?

I've noticed when in reverse it bucks(for lack of a better word)slightly when accelerating..particularly when reversing up a hill or incline. it just doesn't accelerate as smoothly. I've also noticed when in drive it hesitates sometimes when accelerating or letting off the accelerator. Not as noticable or as frequent when in drive, but in reverse it definitely hesitates or almost shakes slightly.

Highly unlikely. These transmissions are fairly bulletproof. Can you describe your issue in more detail?

Mine used to do that too, I took it to Lexus and they said that that was normal as it was supposed to be a mechanism that would keep the car from rolling forward when reversing on an incline. I found that hard to believe, but it never got any worse and I drove the car 50k miles and was always the same. So who knows lol

Don't know about reversing, or what you heard on the subject from Lexus, but problems with erratic acceleration moving in the forward direction usually point to a faulty Throttle Position Sensor. Tons of discussion on this forum about the subject. Use the Search function for more information on how to troubleshoot and correct.
