Sluggish Acceleration Gs300 '99 In City

Recommended Posts

My '99 GS300 does not like to drive in a city going from traffic light to traffic light. While accelerating from standing still it accelerates relatively slow and it seems to make high RPM sounds as if it lacks power or is confused. This is the only time it accurs. Once in motion the car appears to be doing fine. Unfortunately resetting the ECU by unplugging the battery did not work. Does anybody recognize this?

Thanks!

I have a '98 GS300 and do not have this issues (knock wood :P )

How long did you take of th power from the battery? You need probably more time, let's say a few minutes.

But the way, I recently changed my existing airfilter for a new sports one and have a slightly better performance/reaction (also more noise ;) )

Thanks for your suggestions! I replaced the battery last week so I assume this would allow enough time for the ECU to be resetted. The transmission is in regular mode, not in snow mode.

The sluggishness shows up where there is a lot of stop and go and sometimes I have the feeling that the more I am in this mode at one time the worse it gets during that period.

It might alos be that it takes some time for the poer to go from the front to the rear wheels. I have not had this problem, but others have said that it occurs in city because of allo the stop and go. the car has to keep transfrering power so it takes a liitle ttime to cathch up, also being that the car is relativley heavy and is rear wheel drive. the only other thing that I can think of is your transmission might be heating up and you might be in need of a transmission cooler.
