Mobile Dvd System

I recently purchased a 1999 LX470. I would like to install a flip down DVD system, but I'm not sure if it is doable. I prefer the flip down to video monitors in the headrests. Any ideas and/or pitfalls regarding the installation of a flip down DVD system.

I just purchased my Lexus and I'm wondering the same thing. I went to the "Good Guys" and checked out their selection. It seems they're having a special on flip down screen/DVD player/2 headphone packages by Alpine and Sony. I'm not too keen about Audiovox and I don't know if their quality is up to snuff. I'm concerned that if you get a large screen you'll obviously have less rearview vision. I'm still shopping around.

I got my 1999 LX 470 about a 1.5 years ago. I had an Audiovox overhead DVD video system added on behind the sunroof (replaced the roof light with DVD system) installed at Circuit City. It hangs down kind of low and when the screen is down it blocks some of the rear view mirror view. DVD / CD's are put directly into the overhead unit NOT under the seat in a DVD player . I put it in so that our kids could watch movies or listen to their own CD's while we are traveling on long trips. I have aremote control for the unit and Infra Red wireless head phones for kids only sound or we can choose to hear the sound from the DVD player over the Nachomichi original equipment car stereo system. The prices for these mobile video systems has come down quite a bit since I had mine installed shortly after I bought this vehicle. I am still very happy with the option of being able to listen to cd's or the radio while the kids can listen to what they want to in the back. I also like to be able to watch the TV (ballgames) while tailgating. I hope this info helps ( I would recommend this setup) just make sure that you are ok with how low it will hang down while in use or when folded closed.

Ok, just purchased the Alpine overhead monitor/2 headset system with the Audiovox DVD player. The install came out to @ $300 and took a whole day to install. At Good Guys it cost me $1500 out the door. So far so good. :)

I just purchased a 2002 LX470 ( My son rolled my 2000 LX470, not hurt at all) I had a 12" drop down DVD player installed in the middle behind the sun roof. They mounted the DVD player in the center console. This makes the drop down slim (1") and doesn't block the center seat view. We love it so far. I would show pictures but do not know how to post them

Have 2 separate FM Modulators "professionally" installed to my '99 Nakimichi H/U. One drives DVD, the other XM-RADIO.

Works but not pleased loosing 50% of volume. It's as if the FM Modulator by-passes Lexus amplifier.

Other insights/ideas to make volume output equal to base system appreciated.
