A/c Quirk

Recommended Posts

My GS450h behaves differently from any Lexus I have owned or driven. When I set the A/C system to the "Auto" setting (for recirc/fresh air), the setting will not hold when I turn off the car. Instead, it starts in either fresh or recirc mode, depending on what was actually engaged at the time the car was turned off. If I turn off the A/C system with the motor running, the Auto setting will hold when I turn the A/C back on. I have been unable to duplicate this problem in any other Lexus, but I have not tried it on any other GS model. I have been told that this is typical of GS with navigation, but frankly, I don't buy it. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If you have a GS with nav, would you please see if your vehicle behaves this way? I think Lexus owes me a new control unit, but I need evidence! Thanks.

snip . . .

Why not just ask your service teck. Perhaps it's one of several settings that can be modified / changed with the tech's scantool. If you explain what you want ... or what you mean, he may have you go into a similar type car on the lot and you can demonstrate the dif. Or, if it's the same, well then you know.

I tried getting them to check it out, and they tell me it is working properly. If anyone has a GS with NAV, they can tell me if this is normal. The dealer is telling me it is, but I don't think they are right.

I think the dealer is wrong. My 06 GS 450h certainly "remembers" the a/c auto mode after the car is switched off and then back on again. The only time it doesn't is when I turn off the a/c altogether and then turn it back on. In this case it just operates in the last mode that it was in. In other words...the way yours operates seems exactly opposite to the way mine operates. I hope this helps.
