Drivers Side Door-cannot Open From Outside

my 95 sc 400 door, i cannot open from outside, i guess its a rod that broke having to do with the door lock. we went to leuxs dismantillers & were told $150.00 to replace!!! does anyone know if this could be cheaper, is this part universal????my husband has door panel off, & we are stuck on what to do?
