Rust On Filler Door Connecting Screws

If posted elsewhere my apologies - I did a rather diligent search and came up empty.

I have rust on one of the screws/fastner that attaches the fuel filler door to the body of the car.

Has anyone else experienced this? 2004 RX330

Has it ever been in an accident?

Get some new stainless steel hardware to replace it and solve the problem permanently for about 6 cents.

I have an old Corvette that often sits for days/weeks at a time and some of the raw metal and cast iron parts tend to rust. I use PreLube 6, which is a polymer product that prevents rust. It comes in an aerosol can and looks and acts like WD-40 but lasts forever. You might consider trying it.

Aren't they painted from the factory? They shouldn't rust unless the car was involved in an accident and they were painted incorrectly.
