Hi Gents,

I have a heater problem where the heaters start to get warm in the morning but don't realy get past cool unless the car is given some beans and then the heaters get hot again for a while.

Driving the first 4 miles in the morning in 2nd gear just to warm the inside of the car up is doing nothing for my fuel bill!

basically smooth driving = cool air, hard driving = plenty of hot air.

All the time the engine temp needle is planted at about half way, as it always is.

Anyone had anything similar?

Vapor lock, air bubble, in the hose leading to or from the heater core...

Recent coolant "work"...??

my coolant level was very low when I changed my oil so I filled it up with about 4 pints of water/coolant mix.

how to get rid of an air lock?

I had the same issue for a while, it would stop blowing hot air whenever

I came to a stop. Gauge read fine. The coolant level was just low enough

to not reach the heater core at low RPMs. Topped it up and I was good to go.

At this stage I also suspect an air lock in that loop.

I haven't dealt with an air lock in this system, but it may be worth popping

one of the heater hoses off by the heater valve (top center firewall).

In fact, a quick try might be to disconnect the valve's cable and set it to

max open for a while - less invasive.

Repllace your radiator cap, which is most likely the cause of your coolant being low. The valve in the cap is probably not working properly, hence not venting at the pressure precribed. This is a cheap fix that can save you from buying a new radiator, my car is a 98 and already had a bad cap which caused it to consume coolant/antifreeze.

Stant is usually the OEM brand of Japnaesse cars, so there is no need to go to the dealer and overpay!
