Discount On Special Order

Recommended Posts

hopefully ZERO...if you order a car the way you want it, you should be able to afford it...at the dealer I work at, if you order a car its an MSRP deal.

What a horrible dealer you work for! I just picked up my special order IS350 last night, at a significant discount off MSRP. You're selling a car, not oxygen.

With a special order someone is walking in, cash in hand, ready to commit to buying THAT DAY. A dealer should be more than happy to take his money.

The dealer still turns a profit, and it requires NO work on his part at all beyond some paperwork to earn it.

Dealers that hate special orders baffle me... and it's one of the single biggest complaints about Lexus that I see driving people to companies like BMW who sell a whole lot more 3 series than Lexus sells ISes, and are more than happy to special order for you.

I was lucky enough to find a dealer also happy to take my money, but it's a shame there's so few of them.

(I'm on the east coast BTW, so sadly not much help to the Vegas poster unless he's willing to buy out of state)

Wow. What a crappy attitude. Are you a salesman?? Thankfully, I'll never be shopping at your dealership. You must work a lot of magic at building up good will, and excellent word of mouth and referrals.

What do you think my chances would be to get 2K off of MSRP on a special order IS 350?

Vegas, there was a thread either here, or at club lexus that gave a few dealers in Calif. that are willing to negotiate on the IS350, as opposed to our single, local dealer here in Las Vegas. I'll see if I can find it and post the dealership names. It is pretty clear that that will more than likely be the route I will be going.

Hi Guys,

I was able to get approximately 1.5 K off of MSRP for a 2008 IS 350.

Not too shabby considering the following:

a. Special Order

b. 2008 models came out in Sept.

c. No dealer competition.

No high pressure, just amicable negotiation and a lot of coffee.

I signed up for a Black on Black

NV (Nav system)

PT (Premium Pkg.)

XE (WOW)

HL (Hi intensity lights with adaptive system)

Rear lip Spoiler

Trunk mats

Do your homework and have several backup positions available. Hey Janizary, when you are ready, see Steve in their Internet sales group.

P.S. The IS 350 demo test drive was an eye opener. I own a lightly modified 350Z, and I was impressed with the smoothness and power of the IS.

Thanks for the info, Vegas. I will definitely keep that in mind. Steve has been much better in email than Sou (sp?). I'm also looking at the two Calif. dealers mentioned in the other thread as well. I don't mind a short SW air hop to Calif. and the drive back if I can get a bit more. Though, to be frank, getting $1,500 off an '08 at this time amazes me for that dealer. They have been consistently tight-fisted and unwilling to negotiate in the past. Thanks again.

Knightshade, what dealer did you use? I am also thinking on a special order (IS350 Nav + ML) and I am not willing to pay MSRP. I agree with you: you basically order a car they know they sell right away (they don't have to worry to convince someone getting one "from the lot"). I am in NJ.

You completely misunderstand the desire for a discount (re: fair market value which depends on your location). It has NOTHING to do with being able to afford the car or not. It has everything to do with working together to make a fair deal that works for everyone. MSRP is not a fair deal on most cars, unless they're brand new to the market. The IS is certainly not worth MSRP, special ordered or not.

There are car dealers that feel the way you feel. I love telling this story. I was with my dad one time when he was shopping for a 7 series BMW. He sat down with the salesman and started to talk about price. The salesman looked him in the eye and said something along the lines of "If you can't afford this car, we have cheaper cars you can look at". Now, he could have paid cash for any car on the lot. He got up, created a scene on the floor and several other customers walked out with him.

The general manager handed the salesman his walking papers, and rightfully so. I agree sometimes you have to let people who are out to fleece you for a deal thats not fair or possible walk away, but a customer trying to get a good fair deal on a car asking for a discount in line with the local market is absolutely fair.

JBA you do not have to pay MSRP in NJ. I just purchased in NJ for 1500 over invocie. 4K under MSRP. IS350 W/ Lux w 18in, Nav, headlight washers and park assistance.

Only thing I was told about special order now is that it could take up to 3 months because of limited production of 350's in winter months. Although I don't quite understand this since it is always warm somewhere in the US. Which part of NJ are you in? If north east NJ try Prestige or englewood.

could also try Tri county Lexus.

Just bought an IS 250 from a NJ dealer. Joel Cohen was the salesperson. I would definitely say you could get $1500 over invoice. It is at Ray Catena in New Jersey. Just work with the internet salesrep/. If you do buy it there, pm me- tehy give $100 referals. Great expereince and I will tell my friends.

I agree in NJ--I would have bought from them, but Lexus of Chester Springs gave me a better deal (about $700 over invoice, back in May), and was closer and I didn't have to deal with the hassle of transferring tags.

Vegas, how long was your delivery time end-to-end? It looks like you were pondering this in the beginning of October and got your IS350 around the 23rd'ish.

Did they already have one in the pipe, or did they do a dealer swap for one that met your order specs?

Over at clublexus.com many folks seem to be waiting 3+ months for theirs.

Hi Janizary,

When I first started, I wanted the Sport Package. I checked (on-line) Utah, Arizona and California, and no Dealer could deliver unless I placed a true special order. This would require 3-4 months of waiting.

I didn't want to wait that long, nor did I want to buy out of state like a friend of mine did. There was no real price advantage.

I then checked the various available packages and found that if I ordered the XE package with the Moonroof, and several other packages such as HL, NV, and PT, I would basically have the Sport Package. The only things missing were front Seat memory, Exterior mirror with memory, Power tilt & telescopic with memory, and Rain sensing wipers.

I could do all of those functions, but manually, not by memory.

I was willing to give up those Memory features in order get a shorter delivery date. In my case, rather than a true Special factory order, it became a Preferred order which means already built, just search for it.

In short, I had my 2008 IS 350 with the equipment I wanted in three weeks. In addition, the car arrived with the Rear Lip Spoiler and Trunk Mat in place. It seems that those two items are almost automaticlly installed at the Port, and I was not required to pay for them.

As far as the Agency, they treated me as if I had just purchased their top of the line special Hybrid Sedan. My Salesman has already given me two hands-on training sessions on the Nav. system and in making Bluetooth phone calls.

All in all, I am totally impressed with Lexus of Las Vegas and with the deal they gave me.

If you need more info, give a holler.

Vegas, What kind of deal were you finally able to work out in relation to invoice?

Tex, did you purchase a 250 or 350 for 700 over invoice?

barlettafrank,

This is the only Lexus dealer in town. I would have had to go out of state for any competition. I checked with Longo in Calif., and one in Arizona. Neither one would give anything off, since the 08's were just starting to come in.

A friend of mine bought his big Lexus from Colorado, and outside of mechanical service, he gets nothing from the local dealer in the line of help and support.

I received $1,500 directly off MSRP on a new 2008 IS350 Preferred order. I also received at no charge-- $500 Tint job, $355 Rear Lip Spoiler and a $69 Trunk mat. All told, the equivalent of $2,424. Not much if you compare it to some of the claims on this forum, but at least my figures are true.

Finally, if a customer wanted an 08 IS 250, he would be able to get a far better deal. As long as the car is in stock.

Helps this helps.

By the way, it took three weeks after my $500 deposit before I took delivery.

250 AWD. Lexus of Chester Springs, PA. One of my co-workers just called them about a GS350AWD, and they are giving him a pretty good price quote on that too--$4800 below MSRP (Im not quite familiar with the GS pricing).
