How often should I change my oil? Every 5,000 miles?

Has anyone else noticed its hard to check the oil level. I could barely tell where the level went on the dipstick.

Every 5k is what the manufacture recommends, I concur on the dipstick though, I also thought it was difficult to see. What oil does the IS 250 come with from the factory? I know it is 5w-30 but is it Syn or Blend or full Syn?
