AusJapanLexus Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Ok, in a different post, I noted that I thought I might have trouble getting my ES to the States, and will have to go back to driving my Jeep?... Does anyone know anything about, if I am able to bring a right hand drive vehicle into the United States? In particular Georgia??? Please help!!!! Chris
SW03ES Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Yeah you can import it, and the price varies for the purpose and duration of the import. Probably the thing to do is sell it in Japan, and use that money to buy a new ES when you get to the States. You'll wind up spending a lot less.
amf1932 Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Part of the cost will be to upgrade the emission requirements in the States. I don't think that's cheap.
amf1932 Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 If it's a Windom it probably does not meet the U.S. emission requirements. But I'm guessing.
SKperformance Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 yah it might actually beat the us emmision specs as the asain goverments keep a tight rein on cars going bad atleast from what i have heard figure about a month in a container on boat and 6000 to ship it but it might be cheaper talk to us customs to see how much of abreak as no one on this site can give you an exact answer it is all up to uncle sam
steviej Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 don't forget the glass and bumpers have to meet US DOT specifications, too. These might have to be replaced too. my first responce to the question "How do I get my ES to the states?" would have been: a big box and a whole mess load of bubble wrap. steviej
SW03ES Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 My guess is though Toyota just built them all to the highest safety standards out at the time, seems to me that would save money since the cars are identical. Toyota likes to save money... My guess is everything is identical to a 96 ES300 from here, save the RHD.
