erw38 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Hi everyone, I just noticed that on my 99 RX300 that the wires to the receiver for the trailer hitch are frayed. Do you think that these frayed wires would cause the indicator on the dash that tells me I have a bulb out to illuminate. I will fix the wires this weekend when I have time to do so, but was just curious as to whether the dash indicator light could 'see' the frayed wires. Where does the wires for the trailer hitch get their power from? Are they on an independent circuit or are they drawing bower from the other brake lights. Thanks in advance for the answers.
blk_on_blk Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 The frayed wires shouldn't pose a problem unless they are shorting/grounding out somewhere. I'm not sure where they pull the power, but I suspect it's just off the main line for the vehicle lights... can't see a reason for them to run them any way else, but you never know.
Rya Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 My guess is that it's a short. The old way to hard wire trailer wiring tapped into the brake lights. I'm guessing newer vehicles still run the same way, but I'm not 100% on that.
