808-lexus Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 well....i wanted to try to repaint the stock rims on my 400. i know what to do in terms of prepping and things, but i don't know what paint would best match. don't want it to look cheesy either. the stock color is silvery grayish. what do you think i should do? any input would be greatly appreciated! :) thanks! brittni
etex Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I personally like the idea of keeping the car original, or very close thereto.
SRK Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I used Sikkens Autocryl acrylic urethane topcoat, in a very fine metallic silver. The colour matches the aluminum on my 17 inch GS wheels. The factory colour on the 15 inch LS wheels doesn't look like aluminum at all to my eye. I also repainted the center caps after removing the Lexus logo. The car looks very stock and very good. The brighter aluminum appearance only shows when another LS of the same vintage parks next to me, and then that car's wheels look dull. I don't know how to post a photo but I can e-mail one if you like.
jeffls400 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Wurth makes a well-respected Silver Wheel paint and a Clear Top Coat. For reference, this color would be very similar to a BMW or Audi wheel finish from the factory. It is available online.
808-lexus Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 alright, i'll go check that out. thank you so much!!
