Suspension Make Noise

I heard the supension noise too. I just got my new IS 250 AWD silver last weekend. Everything went great, except the supension noise when I passed the bumps. and it seems come from left side of the car. Is this normal to all the cars or just lexus?

That's the sweet spot! That is exactly the same spot as mine. Took it to Lexus I had the tech hanging out the rear window. Said the parking brake was out of adjustment and added some grease...let's see what happens. They said they had never seen it before then they tested another loaner and found another one the same. They also send a report to Lexus.. perhaps enough complaints will get it noticed... as they relentlessly pursue perfection....

I am taking it to Lexus this Friday. I 'll see what they can do.

I just came back from Lexus. They told me that it was the Parking Break made the Suspension Noises. Well, I tested drive on the way back home. so far so good. no more noises. :cheers:

I got the same car like yours in the end of March this year but is black, after three week i got the same problem here(the noise), i went to the service at the first time they tell me it is normal, then i move to the dealer, the sales drove back right a way to the service, bacause he feels the same, lexus cars should not have that noise, the service guys saw i am very not happy with my car then they try to fix it, after they fixed, the noise reduced 90%, but i feel my car runs not normal, i don't know how to say here, sorry about my english, the car looks very good but.........

Dear LEXUS REPRESENTATIVE,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on the telephone about the “official response” from LEXUS regarding my concern (copy below).

As I mentioned to you and with all due respect…THIS IS A BOGUS RESPONSE FROM YOUR CORPORATION. I expect more from LEXUS. Why? Because LEXUS told me to expect more!

As an aside, when I checked the vehicle into the Northborough Service Department, the service specialist assisting me said he used to work for Mercedes Benz and their standard tag line to a customer with a complaint was “…well the vehicle is performing to according to specifications…”. In other words…just live with it.

Your response is not what I would have thought I would have gotten from LEXUS based on my wonderful experiences to date at a local level. I strongly suggest you look further into the issue outlined my letter dated 28 June 2007. Again, I am Architect and business owner with a successful growing business – likely to purchase one or more vehicles every two years. Your attention to this matter will assist me in determining whether LEXUS and their “pursuit of excellence” are rigorous enough to become a permanent member of my design team.

As you know, my letter heaped praise on your employees and dealership in Northborough and I stand by those accolades. However, I do believe that this issue is not solvable at the dealership level. Corporate needs to be as responsive as that dealer, but use their greater resources to solve a most likely fixable design flaw in the IS. The fact that your local dealer (at least told me) that they have found the same problem on numerous 2007 IS models in their inventory alone speaks to a larger issue.

Hate to be the squeaky wheel…but the wheel squeaks… and grease (even special LEXUS grease) is not going to solve this problem.

Their response rhymes with what my service manager told me __and I posted that sometimes ago__ "your expectations from this car are too high"

The direct meaning is "live with what you got"

I have had a terrible experience with those guys from Lexus USA where the rep girl never phoned me back as she promised even after leaving her a couple of messages.

Anyway, people are buying their cars so why should they care that much!

Engine Passion - They should care because they will slowly erode customer confidence and go down the toilet. Just look at what is happening to a company like. DELL. Once considered the gold standard of quality and service. Right now they are in the tank on both.

I am pushing the matter with them more to see if their is "anyone home" in that company or not - it is not a majopr problem with the car. But when you go to buy the thing they make it sound like it will brush your teeth for you....

I agree with you. BUT they may use this as a ploy to let people think that all these flaws would be mitigated in the next gen and buy it. However, I myself would never ever consider something from a manufacturer that did not bother to fairly answer my questions.

:) Okay. I had this happen on my Lexus too and my husband is a mechanic so maybe this solved the problem when the dealer couldn't figure it out.

Here is what solved my problem and I hope it helps you too.

The Lexus Brakes have floating calipers. Most times (especially if the technician isn't careful) the caliper pins might not be put in correctly. If these pins come out you will hear a clanking sound whenever you hit a speed bump or any other bump for that matter. It sounds like a loud clanking sound...it is annoying and honestly embarrasing.

Go have the brakes in the back checked out. My guess is that they are missing the caliper pins. There are two on each brake. I had mine fixed and I have never heard that noise again. Now I'm not saying this is the reason in every case but I went crazy trying to figure out what was lose in the back of my car. I totally pulled everything out the back and it still made that noise. The dealership acted like I was making it up.

Just when I was totally resolved to forgetting about this noise (apparently due to the parking brake and the calipers) ..I have been driving with the windows up so I don't hear it....I get a call from the dealer. (It's been radio silence from LEXUS Corporate to my letters detailing the "clickety click" problem - see earlier posts on this thread)

The Dealer called to say that they have a fix (now that's a first - having them call me without calling them). They have been seeing the problem more and more and yesterday a Tech came up with a fix ( I am wondering whether it involves bubble gum...). So I figured what the heck...need an oil change, nitro in the tires, and the swap out for the rear view mirror anyway. Stay tuned.

Dealer called me the other day to see if I'd had the seat belt recall done. That was nice. I'd already got the notice in the mail some time ago.

Was that recall only for the 06 or for the 07 as well?

I think it was just for the earlier 06 models.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents on the clickety-clack noise issue. I just had this addressed the other day - I was hearing a fairly loud (& frankly pretty embarrassing) noise coming from the rear end of the car going over bumps at low speeds...couldn't hear it at all with the windows up, but terrible with them down. Took it to the dealer & the techh gave me a couple of possibilities: the rear brakes not being adjusted 100% properly - not being a mechanical whiz I'll do my best to recount what he said - I think he was trying to tell me that if the caliper is not quite adjusted/tightened/aligned properly it can tap against the rotor & make a clattering noise going over bumps. So they adjusted the rear brakes & the noise is about 95% gone now. If I had started with only this noise I wouldn't have mentioned it to the dealer...it's only noticable to me because I'm really listening hard.

The other thing that he said is possible is the emergency brake housing needs adjusting - this seems to be what may be the last little bit of noise in my car. If I go over bumps now there's a little tiny clackity noise...if you go over the bump with the emergency brake on a bit, no noise. So seems like that will be the next trip to the dealer.

Don't know if that helps anyone, but thought it could give you something to get them to check.

I also had the dreaded seatbelt rattle (really soft tapping noise) - they replaced the seatbelt housing & put some sort of felt insert in to get rid of the plastic on plastic surface tapping...seems to have worked like a charm.
