Car Shuts Off When Reached Complete Stop On "d"

This has been happening for 2 days now. I disconnect my battery before i head to bed because alarm goes off by itself in the middle of the night. I hope to have this repaired today. So i started my car yesterday and shifted on "D" RPM went slowly from 1 to 0 and car shuts down and check engine comes on. Went to local mechanic and his computer showed that its the speed sensor. Car shuts off randomly. I have '98 GS400. Anyone else ever had this problem? What else could be wrong?
