pjjaxon Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 My wife has a 2000 300 RX that we bought used from a private party. It has about 76000 miles and recently it makes a whirring noise when she starts up in the mornings. It goes away after the car warms up. A second probably unrelated problem, is that the car has stalled three times recently. . . any ideas on repairs would be helpful. I'm not knowledgeable regarding repairs, and don't want to get taken to the cleaners. Thanks

I don't know about the whirring, I'd say most likely nothing to worry about if it goes away when warm. On the stalling issue, if it happens when the car is warm, and just after a short stop maybe, then it might be the IACV. Do a search for that term and/or look here http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=11748 Its a very simple fix which I just did recently, there have been a couple very comprehensive threads on it recently in this forum, can be cured in 15-min with a little care a screwdriver and some carb-cleaner.

I have the same problem with my 2000 RX300. It makes high-pitch noise when it is cold. I took it to a garage to have transmission fluid flushed. The problem remains. Then I took to the dealer and they told me the transmission was gone. What do I do?
NewportLori Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I have the same problem with my 2000 RX300. It makes high-pitch noise when it is cold. I took it to a garage to have transmission fluid flushed. The problem remains. Then I took to the dealer and they told me the transmission was gone. What do I do? I'm nearby in Newport Beach. My 1999 RX 300 with 77K miles is getting a new (rebuilt) transmission right now at a the dealer where I bought it. I was able to get Lexus to assist with the cost because I'm an original owner and followed all of the maintenance schedules (all but one at the dealer). The information on this board and elsewhere helped me negotiate with Lexus. Before I knew that Lexus would help, I checked the OC BBB found a transmission shop in Santa Ana with a rare AAA rating that would rebuild the transmission on a 2WD for $1,900 assuming that most of the parts are re-usable. If they have to replace all of the parts (unusual), the maximum cost would $2,800. It's called "Carlos Transmission." I had the exact same problems. It's a high pitched noise that goes away after about 2-3 mins when the car is warmed up. Check out this thread that's already going: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=accessory+belt Problem #2 about the stalling/idling issues. I wrote a step by step thread on cleaning the IACV. Check out the following thread and see if this is the issue you are experiencing. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=30723 Good luck!
