Radar Detectors And Oil Filters

Recommended Posts

Is anyone out there using a radar detector through the windshield on a LS460? Where are you locating it? Any problems?

Do any of the major manufacturs make an oil filter or air filter for a LS460. I have looked on their web sites and havent been able to find any. Anyone know the Lexus part numbers? It seems Lexus only sells a kit for the O/F that includes a drain plug gasket.

Thanks in advance..........J

Id say if you are lookin for a radar detector I would try out the Valentine 1. A lot of the guy on my BMW board use them and love them to death. I was lookin into one for a bit but decided to buy an iPod and DICE setup to run it through my car. Heres the Valentine site.

Thanks

I would recommend going to www.radarbusters.com. The website rates all the different radar detectors out there, as well as, laser detectors. The Valentine wasn't rated the highest but the website will give you the chance to find what works best for you.

The part # is 04152-38010.

I use a Valentine 1 just right of the mirror in my LS 460.

Be aware of the radarbusters' web site as they cannot sell Valentine 1 detectors and therefore would have no reason to promote them. The Valentine 1 is the best detector available. Period. Buy one and you will never regret it. I have owned mine for several years and am impressed with the company's quick turnaround time for service and upgrades.

Valentine 1 is quickly becoming outdated. I would use the Bel STi or the Passport 9500i. I know the Bel is completely stealth (1st on the market) and the Passport uses the GPS technology to cancel out the annoying "false" readings, like grocery store doors, etc. and you can use the gps to mark "invisible" photo radar. Once marked, the passport will send the alert 1 or 2 miles before reaching the photo radar location. Valentine better hurry up if they want to continue to compete.

Agreed. I have a V-1 in my car and stealth-mounted in my motorcycle with the audio plumbed to my helmet.

At first I thought the sourcing arrows were just a gimmick, but they're very useful, like knowing a LEO is lurking behind you, etc.

I own both a V1 and an Escort 8500... I use both regularly.

I agree that the V1 is probably the one I'd own if I only had one. The arrows are incredibly useful. But I find it to be a terribly annoying radar detector while driving in town. Even my wife hates how chatty it is and in the end I end up turning it off becuase its so obnoxious. However, when I'm driving agressively its clearly the best unit to own.

On the other hand, I find the 8500 to be just as sensitive... and although its missing the arrows, I think that its comfort features like auto-mute and such make it much more civilzed to use while driving around town and in traffic. And those times I'm speeding just a tad over the limit, its nice to get a few chirps to get me to slow down.

So - for me... I take the V1 when I'm driving agressively... and the 8500 for every-day-to-day driving.

If you have the active radar distance control...your radar detector is useless...just a reminder.

On my 2008 LS460 I have adaptive cruise control i.e. radar and use an Escort Passport 9500i radar detector. They work together without a problem. RFeldes, where did you hear or read that a radar detector can't be used with "active radar distance control"?

Police radar uses frequencies between 10 GHz and and 35 GHz. Adaptive cruise control on my LS uses 76 GHz!

TSB...that news was relayed to me by my friend's Dealer about his Mercedes 08 s600. It was a $1700 option. They would not install it for him because of that reason. I don't have the distance control and I use the new Cobra xrsr9g with the remote and additional gps module that alerts me to speed and redlight cameras. I download new locations into the remote on my pc from Cobra every month as the cities add them. Very usefull when I go to Houston as the place is full of those traps. It also remembers false alarms from door openers etc.

I agree with Dead Ringer. I recently purchased an Escort 8500 because I am not a real aggresive driver and thought the $400 for a V1 was a lot more than I needed. I love the auto-mute feature. Makes dirving more pleasant plus a lot more interesting. You really get a feeling for who is out there watching you.

I may eventually upgrade to the 8500i X50 but was able to get an older 8500 on craigslist for $75. Check out guysoflidar.com. They havent had any comparos lately so I would like to see how the V1 does against the new STi. I would recommend anything above a BEL R995. Cobras and Whistlers are junk.
