Kids In Third Row Of Gx

Hi All,

I am considering a GX470, and I would like to pose a question after test driving one yesterday. I think that if I get a GX, I would use the second row for our two babies in infant/toddler seats and put our 6 y/o in the third row in his booster chair.

A great advantage of the GX is that I could keep the left half of the third row folded up or removed, with the right half, where he would sit, open. Thus, he could enter/exit the vehicle from the rear door / tailgate. He tried it and he really likes it.

Does anybody here do this? Any comments on practicality? Any worries about safety in the third row?

Thanks,

PS: All other cars on my list, e.g. XC90, Q7, etc. would require third row passengers to enter via folding down the second row seat; hence this is the advantage of the GX.

My feeling is that if you need to use the 3rd seat all the time, you probably need a bigger truck like the LX or a minivan. My son use to like to enter from the rear to the 3rd row seat. After a while, the novelty wear off, now he complains everytime he has to seat back there.

I've had my GX for 5 months now and I carpool, taking 6 kids to school EVERY morning. THREE 6 year old's sit in back every morning. They are fine. They also love when one of the 5th graders is not riding so they can leave the seat in front of them folded up also, to stretch out their legs. i love the way the 3rd row seatbacks recline and feel like the kids knees are LESS in their chest than the Honda Pilot, which is the other car you should consider. It seats 8 and actually has more cargo room with 3rd seat in place. i did compare the specs and it has more hip, head, shoulder and leg room in all rows (than the GX) possibly because the seats are more slimline (i.e. not as padded/cushy?) i love the Honda Pilot, but didn't want to give up my lexus service (previously had an RX). I may switch to a Honda Pilot in 09 when they redesign IF it looks anything like the redesigned CR-V. The current pilot is just so "Square" although it is probably the most sensible car on the road.

Hope this helps if you have not bought a car by now!
