Es300 Engine Sqeaks

Recommended Posts

Why now when I start my 98 Es300 with 82000 miles the engine sometimes make this squealing chirping bird like noise if you rev it a few times it stops and I noticed it occurs only sometimes after you park the car say while you are at work. Does anyone have any ideas? Oil change was done at a certified lexus dealer only 500 miles ago.

Any ideas? It seems to do it when the engine is cold and just started after it has been at rest for a while.

Your accessory belt is slipping .

also this can happen in park. the bird chirp sound only last for less than 30 seconds and does not always happen. How do I check accessory belt and how do I stop it from slipping?

checking my records

Back 5000 miles ago and on 6/23/06 I had according to my Lexus dealer receipt "Replaced All Drive Belts" and Belt, Vane Pump as well as Belt, v Alternator this was all don at 77647 miles. The car now has 82500.

Is it time to get the belts replaced again?

Do any one know how to stop this from happening as it is somewhat embarrassing? Also should I put anything on it?

Thanks

Yeah, this is a pretty classic symptom. Let me guess, when you start the car, you get the chirping, if you give it a quick rev to the gas pedal, you get an embarassing squeal, then back to chirping, then it goes away? That's a crank-driven belt slipping. It happens when someone puts on a new engine belt and just doesn't quite get it tight enough. When it breaks-in, it loosens up just a touch... just enough to slip a tad through engine warm up. All you need to do is have the belt tightened a bit. You should be able to pop the hood, and with the engine off, push on the free-spanning area of each belt (belts are on the front of the engine just behind the radiator). The one that deflects the most is probably the culprit. There should be an adjustment location for each belt. If you find the belt, I'm sure we can tell you how to tighten it.

the symptoms descriptions are perfect. Since I had a lexus dealer put those in less than a year and about 5000 miles ago. Do you think they will replace it for free? or help tighten it? What should I say?

Thanks

Now that you mention it, they should take care of it for free... they didn't get the tension right. I doubt there is any damage to the belt, but they surely should readjust it for you for free. This is something they shouldn't give you any static on, and they should readjust it without question. It's a 5 minute adjustment at the most.

It's possible that the drive belts are getting old and worn out. You can do the inspection yourself: Look carefully at the ribbed side of the drive belt. If you see just a few small cracks here and there, that's fine, but if you see a LOT of small cracks packed together and missing pieces from the belt, that means that the belt is starting to lose its rigidity and so needs to be replaced ASAP. Otherwise, the belt snaps, throwing off the operation of the alternator, which could lead to a very expensive repair.

Luckily, you don't need to go to the dealership to purchase new drive belts. Most people opt to go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and pick up Goodyear Gatorback drive belts for replacement. These belts cost around $20 to $30, depending on the size and type. It's pretty easy to remove and replace the old belt yourself by simply locating the tensioner of the drive belt assy and loosening the nut that holds the tensioner. This will loosen the old belt so that you'd be able to remove the belt from the pulleys. Just remember which way the belt is installed around the pulley system (as there is only one way). Hope this info helps out.

Hello,

I am hearing this chirp sound while I am driving 75-80 mph. it's comes only when i am driving on highway.

I always leave temp set @73 F at climat control, with A/C and Auto lights on.

Starting car in morning, running in idle. no chirp sound.

I did check belt for compressor. not loose.

I did change all belts @ 210,000. presently 227,500

Need your help.

Thanks,
