This is my first post even though I have been an avid reader since I joined. I appreciate all the information I have found reading the posts. I purchased a 98 400LS last year and I LOVE this car !!!!!!!!!. Last night when I turn on my headlights my dash lights went out.... when I turned my headlight off, the dash lights came back on. Any thoughts as to what the problem is and how I can fix it??

I do not think you have a problem just a characteristic of the car. Are the lights working now after you turned it on and off? I have a 98 and love it also, do not want to ride anything else.

Thanks CPR for your reply. In answer to your question... no the lights are still not worrking. They are on in the daytime but as soon as I turn on the headlights they go off. What do you suggest I do????????

Move your dimmer switch couple of times and see what happens, I believe your problem lies there or a sensor. Because when it breaks you will have no light at all, neither with lights or without.

Are you sure the dimmer switch isn't set on low?

`

Yea, I've had that issue before. Took it to a car wash, they turned the dimmer down and I thought the dash lights were out.

After adjusting the knob, life was good again!

Just wanted to note that this solved my dash lights out problem as well. The lights go out when the headlights are turned on because the dimmer switch was set to low. I had some work done today at the dealer and apparently they did this for me while they were at it.
