I have a question on the cooling system on my 92 ES300 .. It has been Real cold here where I am located ..The tempeture gauge Has been staying at 1/4 unless your in stop and go traffic and going up hills , in that case it goes to 1/2 way. I was trying to remeber from my previous lexus that the temp always stayed at 1/2 way. Is it normal for it to run and stay that cold?

Yeah, but flush the coolant, change the thermotstat & both pressure caps just to feel really good. They normally stay at 1/4 - 2/3. It shouldn't fluxuate when driving.

What would cause the Temp to fluxuate During driving?

multiple items to include:

poor coolant circulation,

insufficient air flow across the veins of the radiator,

increased load on the engine,

slow/poor fan rotation,

faulty water pump,

faulty coolant temp sensor,

thermostat stuck in a open position

What can cause slow/poor fan rotation,? When the Car is cold and first started , the fan dosnt move at all till the engine starts to warm up.

the 92 ES has a hydrolic fan not electric. It is powered by the powersteering fluid/pump I believe. There are alot of posts describing problems with this particular system.
