97lexuses300
I was told by my mechanic that I have a P/S hose leak. He said the hose alone cost $400, and wanted to rebuild the pump at the same time. I finally looked under the car myself, and it looks like the hose from the resevoir to the pump is leaking where it connects to the pump, probably dripping down the line. It seems pretty easy to get to, right behind the front wheel, so I was going to replace it myself. Is this the high pressure hose I have heard about, or is it just a simple connector hose. Also, any tricks for changing P/S fluid? Thanks!
m2pc
Wow, sounds kind of high for just a hose.. If you remove the hose, you can fill and drain the fluid. I'm lazy and did not want to remove the hose, so I used a turkey baster and got out as much as possible and repeated after a couple of weaks until the fluid is a nice cherry red. Good luck on whatever you do.
97lexuses300
Thanks for the draining advice. Since this hose goes to the pump, maybe it is not the high pressure specialty hose that I have to get at the dealer. Anybody know about the different hoses?
