Cracked Evaporator Case

99 GS400 with 47K miles

I noticed my carpet was getting damp drivers side, dealer tells me the evaporator case is cracked. the evaporator/case parts total 2000 with around 1200 labor. 4 months outside of the 3 year certified car warranty thru Lexus. dealer is trying to get Lexus to pay but says the best I can probably hope for is for the parts to be covered.

anyone ever heard of this problem with their Lexus a/c :(

Same thing with my 99 GS 300. Dealer cost to repar approx $1500. They have to pull the entire dash to get to the case.

I pulled the carpet up and dried it out with a fan, pulled the two floor drainplugs, and placed some clear plastic floormats I had under the carpet. Not a long term fix, but it keeps that water off the carpet until I can get it to the dealer for repair.
