AndyLS400 Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 I just changed my front brake pads and rotors, in the process I broke the two screws that hold the right rotor on, (not the lugs for the tire). I didn't replace them because they're now stuck along with the bit I used to drill it out and broke that off to. Everything seems normal when I drive it. Does anyone think I'll have a problem down the line? If so, what?
SRK Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 The two screws are not important once the wheel is torqued on. They retain the rotor to the hub while assembling the caliper. However, it would be best to remove the rotor at some point and carefully remove the broken drill bit and the screw. If one was really industrious, there would be nothing wrong with using the rotor to locate new holes on the hub, drill them at the tap size, and tap the holes to accept new screws. Bottom line is, as long as the wheel is tight, the rotor will be too.
AndyLS400 Posted August 1, 2003 Author Posted August 1, 2003 Thanks, tha was my thought as well. I don't believe the old screw will come loose, but I'll check when I rotate my tires.
jzz30 Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 yea a lot of lot cars didnt have those screws to hold on the rotors so it should be ok :D
