CUMan Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 After reading the thread about cabin air filters on ES models a few weeks back, I ordered this part for my wife's 94 ES. According to the www.lexus-parts.com website, the part number for this item is 88880-30040. That is what I ordered, and that is what I received. The hard part is: I can't figure out how to install the things. There are two filters, about 4" X 8". The two filters are identical. They both flex in the middle. The cavity where the filters go was empty in our car; therefore, I didn't have any guidance in the installation. The instruction sheet which came with the filters was for a 93 GS model. These instructions indicated that the filters in that car were installed behind the glove compartment. I can easily push one filter into the cavity, but there is no room for the second one. Given that they bend in the middle, does this mean you push them into the cavity and then turn them around to fit vertically side by side? I admit that I didn't try to do this. The space is so cramped that you need three hands to hold a light and try to manipulate the things into place. I read all of Toysrme's comments in the previous thread, and that helped me find where the filters go. But he didn't attempt to fit the factory filters. He made his own and only made one filter to fit the cavity space. Can anyone help?
lenore Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hey i don't know about the ES but the RX300 has only one filter element, maybe they gave you two filters one extra for the next change. By the way I have had success washing the filter element and drying.
RPrindl Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 My car is a 94 ES also. I installed just one filter, think it was the thicker one. Also be sure to clean out the leaves and junk in there while you're at it.
khhoang Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 one filter should be labeled as TOP and the other as BOTTOM and both filters are installed (if i recall correctly i got mine from irontoad.com). tops goes in first.. slide in and then slide upward as far as possible. next bottom slides in. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...pe=post&id=1777

Then slide the second one underneath.
camlex Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hello, My 97 have similar 2 peices. Top you slide in and lift up. then slide bottom one. Easy... Hope this helps.
