Scott P. Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 When i'm coasting anywhere from 20mph to 50mph, and step hard into the accelerator there is a thump(almost bass drum like sound)coming from underneath the car. Trans shifts and sounds ok. Some friends think maybe u-joints or tranny mount, but the sound seems to be more towards the rear of car. Any ideas? Are replacing u-joints considered normal wear and tear, or something that might be covered under 100k warranty? I'm at 88k now.
chuckb Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 check and make sure your spare is secured nice and tight.
dcfish Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 check and make sure your spare is secured nice and tight. Sounds like something is loose in your trunk. I don't think it anything to do with your drivetrain.
amul Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I had the same problem. It was the spare. The wheel was never secured with the screw mount thing by the previous owner. It was sitting the side compartment under the trunk carpet
Scott P. Posted January 16, 2006 Author Posted January 16, 2006 I took it to the dealer and they said it's the rubber bushings in the differental. The bushings shrink over time and that is causing the thump sound. They said this is considered normal wear and tear and they won't cover it under warranty. I'm not sure what to do at this point, and they said it's a very BIG repair job to change out the bushings with no guarantee the thump will go away. It wasn't the spare tire, u-joints, or tranny mount. What to you guys think?
