Sqealing Noise From Engine.

Recommended Posts

2001 GS 300.

Sqealing noise from the engine.. Sounds like it is from the belt or pullies.

Only hear the noise when the engine is started after resting for the night.

Noise lasts for a good 10-15 minutes of driving.

With the sqealing from the breaks, the squealing from the engine, and the rattling from the sunroof, i am so embaressed.

how can i get rid of these darn noises?

please help.

I hvae a 98 GS 400 and from time to time the belts squeels a bit. Before changing it make sure it needs to be changed, dont just change it because of the noise. In the autoparts they sell this belt silencer spray. If your belt is good just spray someon there and youll be good for a few weeks. Mine has not sounded in a few months. Now if your belt is old, by all means change it.

As far as the sunroof, sounds like a dealer issue. And your breaks...hmm, who did them? Did you use toyota pads? I got original toyota parts and my breaks are awesome. GL

they cam with the car from a provate party.

Non lexus brakes i guess, then they glaze over and squekky squeek.

I just have to fork out some cash and replace the new brakes with new brakes.

I took the car to the dealer, and they lubed up the pullies. no more squeek.

Now all i have left is that darn check engine light.

To the experts:

Is there anything I need to know before I put some oil on my squeaky pulleys?

I intend to change the serpentine belt if the squeaking does not stop after lubing the pulleys.

just regular motor oil/lubricant?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks!

There are no external oiling points on any of the pulleys - the bearings in them are sealed. Put the oil can away.

actually you can remove the tensioner pulley from the tensioner and clean it out and put a drop or two of oil along the edges of the seal. you can also get the bearing pressed out and a new one put in.

here's the backside of pulley/bearing. you can see that the bearing can be presseed out and replaced.

hi

one way to pinpoint the problem if the belt is dry remove the belt and start the car see if sqweak goes away if it doesn you know its in the belt or the tensioner then you can spin the tensioner pully or wiggle it see if makes a bearing humming noise or if belt is cracked replace it . another way is put some wd40 on the belt if squeak stops change belt that will take care of the problem

thanks
