CDubb Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Unlike many of you, my knowledge of car mechanics is minimal at best. When I look under the hood its like chinese arithmatic. I've had my Green GS 400 for 4 years now and I love it. The only problem I've had has been a dying starter that had to be replaced for $500.00 6-mos ago. I thought about selling my car but there is not much out there that I can get for under $50K so I guess I'm in it for the long haul. Everything is factory and I just picked out some 18" Chrome wheels. Sorry for the monologue but I wanted to give some insight since this is my first post. Now on to my question, speed. I would like to increase the speed of my car, where should I start? I've seen those $50-$100 modules on ebay guarnteing 45+HP. I know you can spend thosands I just want to start out slow. What will give me the most bang for the buck? Performance chips, modules, air intake, etc? I just need to know where to start. Also, I live in Atlanta, reccomend any shops to do the work?
melhadri Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Highly doubt if the ebay modules ($50-$100) will provide a 45+ Hp boost. The GS400 is a 300 HP beauty and I personally think it has plenty of power and speed. What exactly are you tryin to accomplish?
Abear Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 HAHA, ebay chips, those are resistors in a box with the word Toyota stamped on em. You can pick those up at radio shack for about 10 cents. If your looking for added power check Swift racing technologies. they have a site, if you google it you will find it. They have intake systems for the GS400. Also, one more thing is exhaust. Together they may run you around 700-1000. But the power is about 15-30hp gains with intake and exhaust.
CDubb Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks for the advice, my goal is to maximize my car and get the most out of it. I was talking to a guy in the auto store and he was in the processed of getting his car "chipped out" and he said that I could get better performance if I did the same, which lead me to my research and question.

Unfortunately, the GS (or the other Lexus cars) cannot.
Abear Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 This is true, mostly stock turbo cars and V8 trucks. My uncles 2500 Chevy Turbo diesel has a chip on it right now, takes off the top speed limit and bumps the psi up a little bit on the turbo. Stock I think it has like 310 hp and like 605 ft pounds of torque. The chip he put on cost him like 1000 bucks but he has over 500 whp and close to 1000 ft torque, hehe. ANYWAY. If you want big bang for your buck, get a super charger. I'm pretty sure SRT makes one for the GS4. If not, then just google it, Im sure you will find something.
tmwfla Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I tried finding a s/c for the gs400 and I couldn't find anything; unfortunately TONS of stuff for the GS300 and IS300, but nothing for the GS400. Why is this? I had read on here that SRT has/had a twin turbo setup for something around $20k! When I go to their site, the link doesn't work, so my guess is that animal doesn't exist any longer either. Why does nobody make anything substantial for the GS400?
CDubb Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 My buddy who works for Lexus and owns a new GS430 told me to reach out for wholesalehyperformance.com. They have several Turbo upgrade kits for the GS4. I tried finding a s/c for the gs400 and I couldn't find anything; unfortunately TONS of stuff for the GS300 and IS300, but nothing for the GS400. Neo Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 The SRT website is lackluster to say the least. They are still building turbos, though. I know that they have been working on 2 GS400TT cars. One just got done with a bit of fine tuning left and the other nearing completion. I cannot remember the exact numbers but the first one is looking at 5-600 rwhp and the one that is almost done is going for 700. RMM did make an SC for the GS400 but these are discontinued. Used ones crop up periodically though. Other than that, you are looking at many custom ones around different areas. Since you are in GA, a couple of guys have had their cars turbo'd at Mahdavi's.
