93Miata
What does your local dealer charge for Lexus keyless entry remotes? My Lexus dealer wants $149 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (96 SC300, 98 ES300) I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming. I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too. What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.
pearlwhite97ES
I bought 2 keyless remotes from ebay for $ 53 for both and got free programming instructions from a thread here. My dealership want 150 a piece for the remotes 30 a piece to program I would find someone with great feedback and just e-mail then telling what happened in past. gl
93Miata
Thats not too bad for 2 remotes - I assume for the ES300? The SC300/400 remotes usually go for higher. The KR site wants $84, which is cheaper, but its actually run by one of the people I had a problem with already, so Ive been trying to find another source. 93Miata
I found another site online that I'm willing to give a shot - www.ThePartsYouNeed.com The other KR site wants about $95 a piece with shipping for the 96 SC400 remote. They're less than 1/2 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning. https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/displayProd...?productId=1361 I'll keep you guys posted. If it works good, I'm going to order one for my ES300 as well. 93Miata
I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail today. 4 days isn't bad for delivery. Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers. Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the Es300 I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the SC400 and a pair for the ES300. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use. ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks! :D
93Miata
I got the 2nd set of remotes in today. I confused myself a little when trying to program the 2nd remote to the SC because I didn't finish reading. I was programming the new one, but de-programming the first remote. After like 3 tries, I decided to read the whole sheet and found that I had to program them both together. The ES programming was pretty much the same. Now I have 2 remotes for each car which makes things a lot easier. Hopefully these won't end up in the washing machine like the last ones! 93Miata
I think the 96 ES300 has those keys with the single button on the side. That changed for the 97 model year.

93Miata
No problem. Does your key have a screw on the back? I know on the newer style keys with remotes in them you can swap the circuit board piece to another key easily.

93Miata
Can you open your key? The ones with the 3 buttons on them can open if you take out the screw. I don't know if the screw holds the key piece in of if its fixed inside, but I do know the remote part inside can be taken out.

To change the battery I open it up by taking out small screw and battery rests inside unit i guess you could say.
93Miata
If you can open it, can't you slide out the remote part? I found the broken key I got on ebay when I first bought my ES300 to see if I could make a new style remote for mine. Its just a remote inside a case, but the key portion looks sealed to the plastic.
