Remote Key

About 6 months ago I lost my remote key for my 1991 LS 400. JJust a week before that the key stpped working so I took it to the dealership and they told me the battery was working and that it was sending a signal. The said nothing about reprogramming the remote control in the car with the CGN. They told me the only choice was to change out the whole system. So now I don't have a remote key only the spare. Is there a way that I can get another key or intall another remote system. The price was terribly high from the dealership. Is there an inexpensive way that I can fix this problem. The also told me that I could not orde a new key without also ordering the whole remote sysem I would also like to add a remote button for the trunk latch. The 91 I have did not come with one.
