Hello everyone,

I’m in the processes of changing my timing belt but I’m not able to align the installation mark on the timing belt and the one on the crankshaft pulley. It’s always off by one step. Am I missing something? I pulled out the pulley and looked for other marks but couldn’t find any.

Your help is appreciated.

Take this with a grain of salt, but we put the crank at 0 and matched the 2 cams with their markings on the block, and it worked. I hope you did the cam and crank seals while you are in there!

do like blake said i hope that you timned the engine before you took the old belt off if not you need to and the marks will line up

Thanks to both of you

One thing concerns me, when I turn the camshaft at some point it will stop and won’t go anymore. Is this because of the valves touching the pistons and should I worry about this? :(

Hi there! I also face a cam belt job on my 98!

How did it turn out for you, and do you have any recommendations to make my upcoming job easier?

Did your belt fail?

Mine apparently jumped a tooth while in my garage. Glad it wasn't two weeks ago when I evacuated for the hurricane!
