Air Conditioner

The air conditioner in my 1992 ES 300 is cutting off although the temperature is not near the set degrees. If I lower the setting to the coldest setting it blows cold air but when I raise the setting (eg to 67 or 68) the fan does not go on. If I use the manual mode, it blows cold air for awhile at 67 or 68, but then cuts off until I lower it to the coldest setting.

Any ideas?

do a search on "expansion valve" and see if the symptoms in the associated threads are similar.

This valve was/is a common problem with inconsistent AC temps in the early model ES's.
