RX in NC Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Your Air/Fuel Ratio sensor is failing. It is also called the Bank One sensor. The sensor itself is about $200 from a parts distributor and somewhat more than that at a Lexus parts department. Labor to remove the old sensor and replace it with the new one will also run you several hundred dollars. If you're mechanically inclined, you can tackle this repair yourself. But you must first determine the exact location of the failed sensor. And be careful not to strip the threads in the manifold when you remove the old sensor.
Mbasie Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 To RX in NC Thanks for the feedback - sounds like you've experienced this before. My local Lexus dealer just quoted $375 + tax for parts and labor. Does this seem fair? What rates have you been quoted for this?
RX in NC Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 When our Air/Fuel Ratio sensor failed last August, I forced Lexus to replace it under their goodwill warranty policy. If I had to pay for it, the cost would have been about the same as what you were quoted. My wife's 2000 RX300 has suffered from many failed components during 2003 and 2004, far more than this vehicle should have experienced. As a result, I've battled with Lexus on multiple occasions and have basically had more than $9,000 worth of service performed on this vehicle at no charge to us. I research the problems thoroughly, prepare my case, and then dig in and do battle with Lexus until I get what we need. So far I'm batting 1.000 with repairs including replacing the transmission, the exhaust manifold, the front strut mount rubber bushings, the Mass Air Flow sensor, the Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor, the rear main oil seal, and a couple of other items. Very few owners possess the stomach and relentless willpower to battle service departments like I do. But it works for us and I don't mind creating a ruckus in the dealership if I need to. The key is to remain professional and knowledgeable, but absolutely ruthless as well. But we'll never have another RX in our household after this one runs its course. My wife will return to her beloved Grand Cherokee line-up. We've had three of them and it's a bulletproof vehicle that has been far more reliable for us than this fragile, underpowered, under-engineered RX300 crackerbox. I look forward to pushing it off a cliff when we're done with it.... Good luck with your Air/Fuel Ratio sensor. 1
Mbasie Posted July 27, 2005 Author Posted July 27, 2005 To RX in NC Thanks for the feedback - I obviously don't check this site very often. Mine was bought used - no such manufacturer's warranty. I did purchase some extended warranty through the 'non-lexus' dealership I bought the vehicle from so I think I'll look into that although I have a feeling this will be classified as wear & tear just so they don't cover the costs... Thanks anyway.

Thanks anyway. ← Hi! I read about this sensor in another forum(I can't recall which one, that's what google is there for), the owner did a little research and found out that the problem sensor is basically a part of the emission system of some sort, which carries a longer warranty than the basic bumper to bumper. The service manager at the dealership fixed the thing for free. There's no harm in trying...RX in NC is absolutely right! " we only regret the things we dindn't do"
Sebastiaan Beuk Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Hi There, I just went through the same thing. I actually bought the replacement part (234-9009 Denso Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor) online at amazone for $139.00 For the non techie's just buy the part online and then let a mechanic put it in (1 hour) so you should be done for about $ 200.00 Hope this helps
jybondshark Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Does anyone know what this really means? "P1135 - Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)" what part needs to be purchased? Can this be ignored? You have to replace your Air Fuel Ratio Sensor, if you open the hood of your Lexus, it's the one towards the back. You can access is from underneath the car. It's Pretty much plug and play. Put some liquid wrench or wd40 on the sensor while it's hot. It will work it's way in as it contracts. Wait about an hour until it cools down. Then go underneath the car and unplug the sensor. Then your gonna need an Oxygen sensor socket (about $10 from your local auto parts store), also a breaker bar (about $20 from the parts store. The breaker bar just give you more torc so that the sensor come out easier. Once you have it out, screw in the new one as tight as you can with your hand, then give it 1/4 turn clockwise with your oxygen sensor socket attached to your rachet. Just snug. You don't won't to over torc it. Other wise you won't be able to get it out the next time it needs changing. Hope this helps. I had the same failure code and replaced it myself. Good luck and take your time doing it. If the A/F sensor cooperates it should take you about 1/2 to complete the job
Bashir Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 What is difference between Sensor at Bank 1 and at Bank2? Are'nt they same part at different locations? Bank 1 at rear just under firewall and Bank 2 at front behind center of radiator on exhaust pipe. Do they have to be Denso part or any generic part will work? I removed one from Bank 1 which has marking "Toyota 89467 ~ 48011 Denso 0200" I replaced it with a generic one from eBay item #221826329058, ending on Aug-13-15 01:50:30 PDT - Air Fuel Ratio Oxygen Sensor For Toyota Camry RAV4 Lexus RX300 ES300 8946748011 but have not been able to clear error codes which come back after driving about 15 miles and the check engine light keeps flashing.
Bashir Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I took my car to Autozone store to read the errors for check engine light. They read it and told me that my coil on cylinder 1 is bad and need to replace. I bought it from Autozone for $70 with life time warranty if this one goes bad and had them reset the check engine. I have driven the car 50 miles the check engine light has gone but engine still runs rough and grabes/ha sitters to shift to overdrive/ higher gear while driving. Can some one tell me how to fix this condition? IIs this related due to deity and clogged screen on OCV on Bank 1 or Bank 2? I need guidance and help of a pro tech who may post a link to fix this problem with steps by step instructions to make this repair.
