SilverGX Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Been talking on the 4 Runner forum about the effect of the so call employee discounts. Wonder if it wont hurt GM more. Sure there selling the heck out of some of there no style and feature cars. But when they finally end the promotion will it just leave the feeling with people to come to expect that kind of discount from them and not buy unless they get it. It would me. I'd get the feeling that as sure as brought one of there vehicles they would pull another deal and down goes my value like a rock. Some wondered if would hurt the value of Toyota and lexus
LexKid630 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 How much do you think GM buyers are saving with this discount? Do people that work at GM really get that much $$$ off if they buy a GM?? It sounds like a scam to me

The example that I saw was at $31,000 Silverado 4WD for about $22,000. A $9,000 discount is a very tempting offer to someone looking for their first new car, truck or SUV.

Do people that work at GM really get that much $$$ off if they buy a GM??It sounds like a scam to me ← It's not really a scam but the deals have been better in the past when there were huge rebates ($5,000 and more) on selected vehicles. The reason the current promotion is working is that everyone pays the same price for the new vehicle. People like that. And, as far as I know, this is the price that GM employees pay. According to what I have read, the GM Employee Price is the actual price the dealer pays for the car. When they sell the car, the dealer gets back 5% of the sticker price of the car from GM. So, if they sell a $50,000 Tahoe, they get $2,500 back from GM. I don't think that these promotions hurt the values of Toyota and Lexus since typically they appeal to a different buyer. However, the deep discounts offered by GM, Ford and Chrysler could influence some shoppers to buy GM, etc. instead of Toyota based on price. I don't think someone who wants a Lexus would buy from the Big 3 based on price but that's just my opinion.
SilverGX Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Your right it wont hurt Lexus, you want a Lexus your going to get one. I stopped to look at a new Truck. Well they happened to sell Cadillac. The saleman was really pushing that EXT. I told him at 10 off not worth it. Its a Avalanche and I got one and would get another, hey they were about 10 off too. I'm not the market that Caddy thing appeals too. What Toyota and Lexus should do in 3 years or so, when this rash of leases are up or want to trade. Low ball the heck out of them. People want a bargain well ya got one, now pay the price. Can remember in the past at years end it was common to see 10K off a Caddy or Lincoln. So like another post its no better you just dont have to bring a bed and set up residence in a showroom to get it. Will get another GM truck( not a rebadged chevy) but a car no way.
