Remote Keyless Acting Up

Hello everyone,

I bought a 1990 LS400 last fall with 83,000 miles in pristine condition, but have had one problem bugging me since then. The remote keyless entry system seems to decide not to work for weeks at a time, and then will suddenly work again. I suspected the battery in the key was in need of replacement, but that didn't seem to do the trick. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

There was a lengthy diagnostic procedure for the keyless entry system in the 90 LS 2-volume repair manual set I passed on to the new owner. A variety of issues can cause the keyless entry system to fail.
