Hi guys,

Want to know how to fix this speedometer problem.

I have a LS400 '93, whose speedometer does not budge until am doin 20Kmph, (used the gps to figure that out) After that the error continues, i.e when the spedo showes 120Kmph its actually doing 150kmph, any ideas?

Oh, the rpm & temp and other guages are doin fine.....

Thanx

Hey man, your best bet would be to just purchase a new speedomoter (cluster board) on E-Bay. People are selling them in near-perfect condition for next to nothing. If you try to purchase a new one from any Toyota or Lexus dealer say goodbye to $1,000 or more. And do not waste your money on those things that say "Speedomoter cluster repair." It's a waste and you're better off buying a used one in working condition from someone on E-Bay. Good luck.

there are speed sensors on all 4 wheels as far as i can remember,

if some1 with your year has the factory manual ask them to get the location and what kind of output should you be getting from the sensors and compare it with your actual aoutput.

I had the same problem with my 90. It would stick until 20 mph and then register about 15-20 mph slower than I was actually traveling. After several months the speedometer stopped working altogether.

In a way, it is liberating not to know how fast I'm going, except that I start to wonder when I'm passing most of the cars on a 60 mph road as if they were standing still. At that point, I slow down a bit.

I was going to ask the dealer about replacement cost. Someone here says $1000. If that's the case, I'll continue to drive speedometer-less.

I've also looked into GPS-based speedometers. Apparently they work best when you're driving at a more or less constant speed since it takes a few seconds for the speed to be calculated by the unit as it reads your position off the GPS satellite. Since I am limited in my ability to custom-mount things, once I find someone who will install this kind of unit, I will buy one.

sounds like your tires might be taller than the factor origianls

well, what i have is a 225 60R 16, good year on all four.

I think the originals also have the same factor.

However am not sure, if scomboddy could calarify.
